Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Brooklyn Nets, who are reportedly including center Brook Lopez on the trading block. Will the Boston Celtics be interested?
The Brooklyn Nets suffered a disappointing season after finishing in the 14th spot in the Eastern Conference. With this, the Nets decided to undergo a rebuilding process this off-season. In the NBA draft night, they traded Thaddeus Young to the Indiana Pacers for the 20th overall pick (Caris Levert) and a future second-round pick.
In free agency, Jeremy Lin reunited with coach Kenny Atkinson in Brooklyn. Also, the Nets signed Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe to huge deals. However, both were restricted free agents and the Miami Heat and Portland Trail Blazers got them back by matching the Nets’ offer sheet.
Despite some improvements on their roster, the Nets are still predicted to suffer another disappointing season. Michael Pina of RealGM suggested that the Nets should trade center Brook Lopez. The 28-year-old big man will definitely have a high value in the market and could possibly speed up the rebuilding process for the Nets.
Though most of the NBA teams have their own legitimate center, Brook Lopez could catch the interest of teams who have the ability to contend for the NBA championship title next season.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics are one of the NBA teams who dreamt of building a title contender team next season. The Celtics succeeded to acquire Al Horford but failed to get their main target, Kevin Durant.
However, general manager Danny Ainge said that they are still not done yet in upgrading their roster. The Celtics have been involved in various trade rumors this off-season. Despite having Horford, they were reportedly interested in acquiring big men like DeMarcus Cousins, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens Noel.
This means that the Celtics could be a possible trade destination for Brook Lopez. The Boston Celtics currently have plenty of trade assets that can speed up the rebuilding process of the Nets. Lopez will undeniably give a boost on the Celtics roster.
Having a center who can average 20 points per game, the Boston Celtics have the chance to contend for the NBA championship title next season.
