Pau Gasol to San Antonio Spurs will happen if the Texas teamfail to land Kevin Durant in free agency, according to the latest NBA rumors on Monday.
Marc Stein of ESPN made the free agency prediction via Twitter.
Gasol has previously been linked to San Antonio after opting out of a $7.6 million contract with the Chicago Bulls for the 2016-2017 season. Other teams in NBA rumors chasing the Spaniard are the Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers and Toronto Raptors.
The 35-year-old Gasol had a great season with the Bulls with averages of 16.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.0 blocks. As a big man, he is also known for his passing skills and should be a good fit with the Spurs, who is known for their team passing and team play.
Before joining the Bulls in 2014, Gasol played for the Memphis Grizzlies (2001 to 2008) and Los Angeles Lakers (2008 to 2014). The Spanish big man was a crucial piece for Kobe Bryant-led Lakers squad that won back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010.
Meanwhile, Kevin Durant is expected to make his decision in free agency on Monday night. According to NBA rumors, it’s down to three teams, Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics.
However, the Spurs have not made any moves yet as they also had a meeting with the OKC superstar. There is still possibility that KD lands in San Antonio this summer.
Will Pau Gasol commit to signing with the Spurs as early as Tuesday as per the NBA rumors on his free agency? Or will the other teams get him now while the Spurs are waiting for Durant’s decision?
