The Denver Nuggets are hoping to rebuild its roster as rumors are swirling that they are willing to offer Kenneth Faried and Emmanuel Mudiay in a trade for Oklahoma City Thunders’ Russell Westbrook.
It is a given fact that the Thunder does not want to be held hostage with Westbrook. They want an answer from their point guard if he is going to stay and sign a contract extension or be shipped out. The Thunder has expressed willingness to extend Westbrook’s contract so as to avoid a Kevin Durant-like exit next year via free agency.
But until now, Westbrook has not made any commitment to the Thunder and the team is likely to take in offers of a trade that would sound appealing to them. The Nuggets, on the other hand, are looking to offer Faried and Mudiay, who could best help the Thunder in their rebuilding efforts.
The 26-year old Faried can give the Thunder a solid presence in the shaded area as he averages 12.5 points with 8.7rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game while Mudiay brings in an average of 12.8 points, 5.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds a game in the point guard spot. If the Thunder is looking to rebuild with the idea of trading Westbrook, then the Nuggets offer might be of good sense.
Zack Mikash notes that if the Thunder is not keen on the variation, they could ask for Danilo Gallinari instead of Will Barton and send back Kyle Singler for a salary match. Either way, it could benefit both teams.
If the Nuggets pull off this trade it could help them to be contenders in the Western Conference with its talented young lineup and the addition of Westbrook. The clock thickens for Westbrook to make his decision. Though he has sent word to the Thunder that he wishes not to be traded but he has not answered the call for a contract extension either.
The Thunder already waived Dion Waiters to create a salary cap adjustment for the contract extension proposed. The Nuggets, on the other hand, wants a solid veteran to lead their young roster as well in being contenders are the season approaches. Many analysts have stated their opinion that Westbrook may be traded prior to the start of the season and the Nuggets may be able to snag him in the end.
