After years of losing the Philadelphia 76ers are ready to take next step featuring Ben Simmons Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, three prized rookies who will try to take the team to the playoffs next season.
The Sixers are confident that the trio will not only be the top players for their team but will also battle for the NBA Rookie of the Year (ROY) award for the 2016-2017 NBA Season.
ESPN’s Marc J. Spears suggested that all three of Simmons, Embiid and Saric will be candidates for the NBA ROY award.
The Sixers were the laughingstock in the league the last few seasons but the arrival of the trio will make the team stronger as they also feature big men Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel.
There are NBA rumors that Philadelphia is active on the trade front because of the imbalance in the roster, with many potential great big men but not enough guards and shooting.
The 20-year-old Embiid was the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft but is still qualified to win the 2017 NBA ROY award because he has yet to play a game in his NBA career due to injuries. In 28 games for the Kansas Jayhawks in the 2013-2014 season, he averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.
The 22-year-old Saric has played professionally in Europe and has also suited up for the Croatian basketball national team. For Anadolu Efes in the Turkish League in the 2015-2016, he averaged 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old Ben Simmons is the top overall pick in the recent draft. In 33 games for the LSU Tigers in college basketball, the Australian averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Will Ben Simmons prove that he is the top rookie next season? Or will Philadelphia 76ers teammates Joel Embiid and Dario Saric steal the crown from the Australian?
