NBA Trade Rumors: Phoenix Suns serious in trading Devin Booker and Eric Bledsoe for Russell Westbrook but have one condition to proceed

Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Phoenix Suns, who are reportedly trading Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker for Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, the trade will only proceed once the Suns get an assurance from the Thunder superstar that he will re-sign with them in 2017 NBA free agency.

Kevin Durant’s decision to leave has dealt a huge damage to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They have not only lost their franchise player but also threatened to lose one of their superstars, Russell Westbrook. The 27-year-old point guard was reportedly not signing an extension with the Thunder, giving him the chance to become a free agent next year.

Jason McIntyre of The Big Deal suggested that the Thunder should trade him before the 2016-17 NBA season starts. It will be a better move than freeing Russell Westbrook in 2017 NBA free agency without getting anything in return.

Dieter Kurtenbach of Fox Sports gave some reasons on why trading for Russell Westbrook makes sense for any NBA teams:

“If the Thunder trade Westbrook today, they would also be trading away the right to sign him to a contract that puts them over the salary cap and the right to sign him to a five-year deal with 7.5 percent raise increases per year,” Kurtenbach said.

“If you trade for Westbrook now, you also trade for the ability to give him a contract no one else can match this time next year. That’s worth an awful lot.”

One of the NBA teams that are reportedly interested in trading for Russell Westbrook is the Phoenix Suns. The Suns have plenty of young talents that will surely attract the Thunder. Though they have promising and skilled players, their roster is obviously in need of a superstar to reach a higher level next season.

According to Kyle Fleeger of Valley of the Suns, the Suns could trade Devin Booker and Eric Bledsoe for Russell Westbrook. Eric Bledsoe may not be as good as Westbrook, but he is also a starting caliber and has proven himself in the league. Devin Booker, who is one of the promising players in the league, can help a lot if the Thunder will start rebuilding their team next season.

If the Phoenix Suns are serious in trading for Russell Westbrook, they should assure that he will re-sign with them in 2017 NBA free agency. If he disagrees, it will be best for the Suns not to pursue the deal and continue their journey with the assets they have.

This was a made up trade scenario by another writer. MADE UP. It’s not a rumor, Devin booker is our new future. He will not be traded especially since we have 2 new 18 year old draftees. Sorry but your horrible headline is a lie. Write your own storry.

It’s ridiculous. The headline is such a steep and profound claim, yet there aren’t any sources whatsoever. Just an idea that somebody wrote about – plus, why would Phoenix trade Bledsoe and Booker? What’s the point of having all of these future picks and assets if we are just going to trade Booker rather than use them?

    • William Glover

Not to mention that if we DID trade to the Thunder, we would trade something along the lines of Bledsoe/Knight/Chandler, and a first round pick.

C’mon man… The Suns will of course be a rumored suitor because of the assets and cap space they have, but this is far from a rumor… Your headline and thesis statement for this piece are such steep and outrageous claims with no actual source to back them up… This was an idea written by a Suns fan, in which he acknowledged was not a rumor – just an idea… So, please don’t use something like that as a source. I’m not even denying that Phoenix could be interested in Westbrook, because they should at least explore it. But what is the point of having assets and draft picks if you are just going to offer up your 2 best players for Westbrook? Plus, there is no guarantee anyway that he would resign so why would you assume that is Phoenix’ one condition? C’mon son.

It would be the 1999 Antonio McDyess situation all over again.

With a guarantee to sign him for the future I would trade anyone on the Suns for possibly the best player currently in the NBA. We need to all wake up prior to getting all upset. Bledsoe has not shown anything other than being a turn over machine and always injured. Booker no doubt has shown potential his first year and that is it. There may not be a more dynamic player in the Nba the past several years. Surround him with a solid center and a few more players you have something.
