NBA Rumors: Ray Allen Knicks missing piece, Carmelo Anthony & Derrick Rose cushion

Ten-time NBA All-star Ray Allen last played for the Miami Heat in 2013-2014 and decided to sit out the following season before going on an indefinite hiatus from pro competition. Could he be the New York Knicks’ missing piece, a cushion in between Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose from clashing?

Ray Allen, 41, has been mulling a comeback, admitting being intrigued with the idea of making another run for a 3rd NBA title.

He is one of the NBA’s most accurate three-point shooters and is the all-time leader in career three-point field goals made in both the regular and postseason.

In spite of his years of absence in the NBA, in a report by Mass Live Clippers coach Doc Rivers said:

“Ray is in amazing shape. I don’t know how he does that. I didn’t know how he does that as a player; I don’t know how he does it as a non-player. He’s probably in top-five shape in the NBA. So could Ray play? Absolutely, I believe he could.”

Allen has openly expressed his desire to play with the Celtics, but the team’s roster can no longer accommodate him at this time.

NBA rumors are taking rounds pointing to the Knicks’ interest in signing the eighteen-year veteran. The story first surfaced after long-time Knick fan director Spike Lee recruited Allen to play in New York.

However, analysts fear Knicks stars Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose won’t gel well in terms of playing style. Both players are most effective with the ball, and therefore, don’t complement the other. Their conflicting styles could end up in the deeper fissure in the near future.

When they are on the basketball court at the same time they could end up competing with each other for ball possession, but perhaps this is where Ray Allen could come in and avoid potential conflict between the two stars.

Allen could play more of a leadership role, and give either Carmelo Anthony or Derrick Rose more passing options while easing the defense for being a long-range threat.

During his last season, Ray Allen averaged 9.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, but his presence as a veteran and a 2x NBA champion makes him a positive influence for the whole team, especially its top two stars.

Is Ray Allen the Knicks missing piece, a much-needed cushion for Carmelo Antony and Derrick Rose to co-exist?

Carmelo Anthony played great basketball in the Rio 2016 Olympics, and NBA fans hope he will be able to continue his level of performance once the new season starts.

With Allen around, Carmelo Anthony could be given more space to do what he does best by stretching the defense.
