The Philadelphia 76ers have been looking to trade one or both of their big men Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor to relieve their roster of a center logjam with the return of Joel Embiid. NBA rumors have positioned Toronto’s Kyle Lowry for Okafor.
Jahlil Okafor may only be entering his second season in the NBA, but he’s young (20) and has a bright future ahead of him.
He has the talent that could improve the Raptors scoring ability from inside the paint, the size, and speed to improve their overall game and versatility. The addition of a big man like Okafor is important to the Raptors, especially after they lost Bismack Biyombo to the Orlando Magic.
They also struggled in the playoffs last year due to their lack of size, and the injury of Jonas Valanciunas. A report by the Inquistr suggests the Raptors may want to fill in that need by fulfilling a Jahlil Okafor trade in exchange for Kyle Lowry.
Jahlil Okafor averaged 17.5 points, seven rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game last season, and he could be a valuable addition in both the offensive and defensive end, while improving their rebounds.
Kyle Lowry for Jahlil Okafor trade works financially considering both teams’ cap space. The Raptors point guard is an all-star caliber who averaged 21.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game last season.
Together with DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry helped the Raptors achieve new heights last season with a record of 56-26, and they did well in the post-season, succumbing only to the current champions.
Kyle Lowry is also coming off a great experience as a member of Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Sixers is expected to have a better season with Lowry, but gives up youth by trading Jahlil Okafor.
On the other hand, Jahlil Okafor seems inclined to improve his demeanor this season, as he promises to stay out of trouble, and off court problems that led to game suspensions in his previous season.
According to a report by the Sixers Sense Jahlil Okafor said, “It’s no secret I got in trouble (last year). I knew when I was doing it, it was wrong. It won’t happen again.”
Is it worth giving up an experienced veteran of ten years by swapping Kyle Lowry for a young, but changed Jahlil Okafor, as NBA rumors have it?
As much as the Sixers would love to go for such a trade, it seems unlikely that the Raptors would go for it, as they are expected to lose more games without their veteran guard.
