NBA Rumors: Sixers not trading Jahlil Okafor? Possible reason is Joel Embiid’s health

Jahlil Okafor has been part of a lot of trade rumors this offseason as the Philadelphia 76ers have a glut of frontcourt players on their roster. The latest speculations imply that Okafor might spend the next season with the Sixers as the team slowly monitor’s the health of Joel Embiid.

According to Bob Cooney of The Inquirer Daily News in Philadelphia, the Sixers will be monitoring Joel Embiid’s minutes. The third-year man who has not played a single game in the NBA has been plagued by foot injuries since being drafted third overall in 2014.

The question about Embiid’s health is great news for Okafor because he becomes insurance just in case something happens. Of course, it’s not a good thing being a backup but he will likely start over Embiid due to the minutes restriction.

Cooney also predicts Nerlens Noel will be the first player traded next season. He also noted that Okafor will be important at the start of the season.

“If I have to give an answer, I’ll predict Noel gets moved before the season is over,” Cooney reported.

The Sixers have a lot of potential but it needs to pan out before making any moves. Jahlil Okafor is vital if Joel Embiid breaks again while Nerlens Noel can bring in a lot of other assets.

Noel is also set to get an extension which makes Philadelphia’s decision easier.  Okafor has been linked with teams such as the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans while Noel was rumored to be a target of the Boston Celtics.
