The Golden State Warriors are one of the top contenders in getting Kevin Durant this summer according to NBA rumors. But if that Warriors free agency plan fails, the Bay Area team will reportedly look at other free agents in the market including veteran Spanish center Pau Gasol.
Gasol, who has played the last two seasons with the Chicago Bulls, will be turning 36 later this month but he is seen as a serviceable big man even at his age. Gasol averaged a double-double of 17.5 points and 11.4 rebounds plus 3.4 assists and 1.9 blocks in two seasons in Chicago.
According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Gasol does not want to take a pay cut like he did with the Bulls in Chicago and will demand a lucrative deal. It’s not clear how much the Warriors are willing to offer the big man but they have the salary cap space if they can’t sign Durant to a deal this summer.
However, the NBA rumors add that Gasol could be attracted to the Warriors since they are one of the powerhouse teams in the league. A chance of winning a title in Golden State could be a factor for the Spanish big man’s decision.
The Warriors also have restricted free agent Harrison Barnes to worry about but it looks like the team is willing to let him go as he will demand a max contract. Barnes is being linked to the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers this summer.
Pau Gasol is also being courted by a number of teams including the San Antonio Spurs, Portland Trail Blazers, New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves according to NBA rumors With the latest Warriors free agency plans revealed, Golden State joins the list of Gasol’s suitors this 2016 free agency.
