Ben Simmons, Brandon Ingram or Dragan Bender- the three likely candidates in Los Angeles Lakers’ radar for the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. But who’s going to be the Lakers’ first round pick? The Lakers also have the 32nd pick of the next month’s NBA draft and Metta World Peace believes they should draft prospect Thon Maker.
The teams generally take a chance with their second round picks given its non-guaranteed contract. The Lakers need a big man to protect their rim for the next season. In this regard, seven-footer Thin Maker is a suitable option for Los Angeles, feels Metta World Peace.
“I don’t really know who is available, but I like the kid Thon Maker. I guess he’s going to be a superstar,” he revealed in the Dan Patrick Show recently.
The Lakers also interviewed Maker in the pre-draft combine, and it turned out to be a successful session for the 19-year old of Sudanese descent.
“I will be ready. I will be. I’m preparing for it every day.” Maker pointed out he is prepared for handling the pressure of NBA. He decided to jump out of the high school to land directly in the professional league.
ESPN’ Chad Ford is also impressed with Maker after having a glimpse of the seven-footer in a workout session. He observed that Maker is a potential three-point shooter and has great mobility. Ford is considered as one of the draft experts in the pro league.
Maker won’t turn 20 until February and special clearance was required from the league for him to even enter the draft after he clarified that he completed his high school in 2015 and continued an extra year as post graduate student.
