Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Phoenix Suns who are reportedly trading Brandon Knight and Tyson Chandler for Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 2016-17 NBA season is expected to be tougher for the Cavaliers as most NBA teams have managed to make a major upgrade on their roster. In the recent free agency, Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors with the goal of winning his first NBA championship title and help them take revenge against the Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers are expected to respond with the improvement in the Warriors’ roster by trading Kevin Love to acquire players who can help them defend the title. However, the Cavaliers decided to retain their ‘Big Three’ and yet to bring back J.R. Smith on their team.
The departure of Matthew Dellavedova and Timofey Mozgov deeply hurts the Cavaliers as they were important pieces in their bench. Recalling in the 2015 NBA Finals, Dellavedova and Mozgov were given starting roles after Kyrie Irving and Thompson played limited minutes due to injury. Despite losing Mozgov, the Cavaliers still have a tough frontcourt.
Delly will surely be missed in Cleveland as rookie point guard Kay Felder is the man who is tasked to take his role. Before announcing retirement, Mo Williams is projected to be the primary backup for Kyrie Irving. However, days after he officially retired, it was revealed that Williams suffered a knee injury.
Without Dellavedova, the Cavaliers are very thin at the point guard spot. Though they have Felder as his replacement, relying on a rookie point guard would be a sketchy proposition for a team whose goal is to defend the title in the upcoming season.
An NBA trade rumor is currently circulating that would give the Cleveland Cavaliers a quality backup point guard and an addition in their frontcourt. In a suggested trade scenario, the Phoenix Suns will be trading Brandon Knight and Tyson Chandler for Kevin Love. This works on the ESPN trade machine.
Knight is expected to sacrifice the starting role for Eric Bledsoe. The Suns were frequently mentioned in various trade rumors in the past months involving their point guards. However, Zach Lowe of ESPN revealed that Brandon Knight is likely to be traded than Bledsoe.
Meanwhile, Tyson Chandler seems to be a bad fit in the Suns’ young roster. The Cavaliers will be needing his service, especially on the defensive end. The Cavaliers were reportedly finding a quality rim protector in the recent offseason which Chandler could give if the trade happens.
As of now, fans can take this trade rumor with a grain of salt. LeBron James and the Cavaliers are eyeing to retain their ‘Big Three’ entering the 2016-17 NBA season. Should they find themselves in a tough situation defending the title, there is a higher possibility that they will pull the trigger and make a trade.
