The Philadelphia 76ers are still searching for a starting guard to run their team and add shooting in their line-up. The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to rebuild their roster for the future. Would a trade centered on Jordan Clarkson for Jahlil Okafor deal work for both teams?
NBA trade rumors have mentioned Okafor as the odd man out in the future plans for the Sixers this 2016 offseason with the presence in the front court of Ben Simmons, Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid and Dario Saric. Earlier this summer Okafor was linked to the Boston Celtics and other NBA teams but no deal has happened so far.
However, word out of Philadelphia is that the Sixers management wants a more balanced roster before the start of the 2016-2017 NBA Season. Dealing Okafor or one of their big men will give the team a needed boost in their backcourt.
The Lakers drafted Brandon Ingram in the recent NBA draft and they have other young guys like D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle. Dealing the 24-year-old Clarkson could be a good idea for their long-term plans especially if they get Okafor, who is still just 20 years old.
Clarkson re-signed with the LA Lakers last July 6 for a four-year $50 million contract. The combo guard can’t be traded until December but he will be one of the players on the trading block if Russell continues his development as the starting point guard for the team. Clarkson is already old compared to the 20-year-old Russell, 21-year-old Randle and 18-year-old Ingram.
If Clarkson joins the Sixers, he’d be the top guard for the team running the offense with many options down low for Saric, Noel and Embiid. Simmons’ shooting is also doubted by many at this stage of his career and having a good shooter in Clarkson will improve their wing offense.
Should the Lakers and Sixers deal with each other and swap Clarkson for Okafor? Tell us your thoughts below about this NBA trade rumor.
