NBA Trade Rumors: Kenneth Faried to Timberwolves, Kris Dunn to Nuggets

The Minnesota Timberwolves are entering the 2016-17 NBA season with the goal of being a playoff contender. According to the latest NBA rumors, Kenneth Faried will be traded to the Timberwolves to reunite with coach Tom Thibodeau.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have successfully rebuilt their team in the past years, having Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins as their main men. Also, the Timberwolves hired Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach. In the ESPN Summer Forecast, the Timberwolves is projected to finish 10th in the Western Conference with 39-43 win-loss record.

In the recent offseason, most NBA teams have managed to upgrade their roster, especially the reigning Western Conference champions, Golden State Warriors, who added Kevin Durant. If the Timberwolves want to increase their chance to enter the 2017 NBA playoffs, they should consider improving their roster by adding another quality player.

According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the Minnesota Timberwolves are interested in acquiring Kenneth Faried from the Denver Nuggets. Coach Tom Thibodeau was reportedly a fan of Faried. Thibodeau was part of the Team USA staff when Faried competed in the FIBA World Cup 2014.

Zach Lowe of ESPN revealed that the Nuggets have been trying to trade Kenneth Faried for three years, but failed to find the ideal trade partner.

“The Nuggets will also be at the epicenter of the trade market. They’ve been dangling Faried off and on for three years, and continue, for now, sources say. They could deal with either team-building direction: turn young players and extra picks into a bigger name, or go full rebuild by flipping their established veterans for more picks.” Lowe said.

One of the major concerns of the Denver Nuggets entering the 2016-17 NBA season is point guard play. If the Timberwolves will be serious in acquiring Kenneth Faried, they could send the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft, Kris Dunn, to Denver.

Coach Tim Thibodeau can use Faried as the perfect frontcourt partner for Karl-Anthony Towns, providing an interior toughness in Minnesota. For the Nuggets, Kris Dunn could be a good fit in their young roster and a solution to their backcourt problem.

As of now, there is no official confirmation if the two teams will be engaging in a trade deal. However, if this trade proceeds, it will surely help the Nuggets and the Timberwolves in filling up the needs to improve on their roster.
