NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers keeping Nick Young? ‘Swaggy P’ showing improvements in Drew League

The Los Angeles Lakers need to decide before the 2016-17 NBA season whether they will keep Nick Young or part ways with him. ‘Swaggy P’ has been the subject of lots of rumors this offseason. Many people believe that the Lakers will either waive or trade him, but has yet to happen this summer so far.

In the middle of the 2015-16 NBA season, Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell have been involved in an off-court issue. This rift was not yet fixed until now and the only solution that most people think is to separate both players.

In this case, the Lakers will surely prefer to part ways with Nick Young rather than lose D’Angelo Russell. Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times believed that the Los Angeles Lakers will either trade or waive Young before the training camp.

“Veteran Nick Young has two more years on his contract totaling $11 million, but it will be a surprise if he’s not traded or waived before training camp,” Bresnahan said.

Zach Harper of CBS Sports also said that Nick Young has to go because of his issue with D’Angelo Russell. Last season, former Lakers head coach Byron Scott decided to put Young on the inactive list after observing his lack of focus in the game.

However, the Lakers are not yet making any moves regarding Nick Young this offseason. Recently, in Drew League, Nick Young, Jordan Clarkson, and Julius Randle played to show their improvements this offseason.

Clarkson and Randle have made a good impression on both ends. Julius Randle got a chance to play against some of the best players in the NBA as part of USA Select Team. On the other hand, Jordan Clarkson also did well in improving his three-point shooting.

Nick Young also established an impressive performance in the Week 10 of Drew League, scoring 25 points and nine rebounds.

If Nick Young is serious in returning to the Lakers next season, he should work hard to improve his performance this offseason. Also, he should prove to the Lakers’ management that he deserve to earn a spot on the roster.

Once he resolves his issue with Russell, there is a higher possibility that the Lakers will give him another chance to play for them next season.
