The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly listening to trade offers for All-Star power forward Paul Millsap. The latest NBA rumors claimed that Millsap would be headed to the Toronto Raptors for Patrick Patterson, Terrence Ross, and Jakob Poeltl.
Paul Millsap continues to be part of various rumors in the past months. According to Chris Haynes of ESPN, Millsap plans to opt out at the end of the season to become an unrestricted free agent.
The Hawks will be facing a familiar situation next summer involving one of their stars. Recalling in the recent free agency, the Hawks lost Al Horford for nothing after he decided to join the Boston Celtics. With Millsap’s free-agency decision remains uncertain, trading him now will be the best move for the Hawks.
According to ESPN, the Hawks start to entertain trade offers for the 31-year-old power forward but are not openly shopping him. Other Hawks reportedly available on the trade market are Kyle Korver and Thabo Sefolosha.
Trading for Millsap will be quite risky since he can leave next summer. However, he will be a great addition to teams who are eyeing to contend for the title this season. According to Tim Cato of SB Nation, several NBA teams expressed their interest in acquiring Millsap, including the Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
PAUL MILLSAP COULD HELP THE RAPTORS BEAT THE CAVS
The Toronto Raptors are expected to challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference this season. Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan proved to be one of the league’s best backcourt duos. However, to strengthen their chance of dethroning the Cavaliers, they should consider improving their frontcourt.
According to Chris Ryan of The Ringer, Paul Millsap would be a great addition with the Raptors, forming a “Big Three” with Lowry and DeRozan.
“What about Millsap to Toronto for Patrick Patterson, Terrence Ross, and Jakob Poeltl? How great would a Big Three of Millsap, DeMar DeRozan, and Kyle Lowry be against the Cavs? The Raptors could spread the floor around Jonas Valanciunas, and Millsap would link back up with DeMarre Carroll to form a misery-inducing defensive duo. If that team were healthy and hot, it could push Cleveland,” Ryan wrote.
As of now, there is no strong indication that the Hawks will move Millsap. They are currently in the 5th spot in the Eastern Conference and projected to enter the playoffs. As the February 23 deadline approaches, expect more rumors to circulate involving Paul Millsap.
