Ricky Rubio, representing Spain at the 2016 Rio Olympics, can’t still shake his name off the NBA trade rumors section with the new season a few months away.
New speculations in recent weeks have mentioned in the Spanish point guard from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a possible deal with the Sacramento Kings, which are badly in need of a starting PG.
The reported possible deal is the Ricky Rubio for Rudy Gay trade and this makes sense for both teams. Minnesota gets a starting forward and will move Andrew Wiggins to the shooting guard spot while Sacramento gets their starting point guard.
“It makes a lot of sense. Kris Dunn and Tyus Jones are the point guards of the future in Minnesota, and the Wolves don’t need Rubio around to take away their playing time,” Arthur Hill of Hoops Rumors claims when asked about the possible Rubio-for-Gay trade.
“[Ricky Rubio] is signed for the next three seasons at $13.55MM, $14.25MM and $14.8MM, so he’s too expensive to keep as a backup. Minnesota is looking for one more wing player, while Sacramento needs help at point guard.”
Rubio has also been mentioned in NBA trade rumors dealing him to the Philadelphia 76ers’ Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel. This also makes sense since the Sixers want a guard and Minnesota can choose to add a starting big man as well to pair with young star player Karl-Anthony Towns.
Rubio initially struggled for Spain at the 2016 Rio Olympics scoring just three points in the first two games against Croatia and Brazil. He has since turned it around, with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists against Nigeria and 11 points and 4 assists against Lithuania.
Spain was in danger of getting eliminated in Brazil but Rubio has helped the squad to back-to-back wins to remain in contention for an Olympic medal in basketball.

Should the Minnesota Timberwolves give up Ricky Rubio to the Sacramento Kings and acquire a veteran in Rudy Gay? Or should they ship him to Philadelphia 76ers and get a young player in Jahlil Okafor or Nerlens Noel?
