Ricky Rubio trade: Timberwolves give up Rubio and Shabazz Muhammad for 76ers’ Jahlil Okafor and Nik Staukas?

Timberwolves give up Rubio and Shabazz Muhammad for 76ers’ Jahlil Okafor and Nik Staukas?

Shooting is something that Ricky Rubio has continued to struggle with his whole NBA career and with that a trade comes inevitable. Trade rumors suggest the Timberwolves send Rubio together with Shabazz Muhammad to the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the proposed deal, the Timberwolves give up Rubio and Muhammad and get Jahlil Okafor and Nik Staukas. With the deal, the Timberwolves gets rid of Rubio who has only managed to average 10.1 points, 8.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds a game. It will also give room for rookie Kris Dunn to showcase his talent.

According to Fox Sports, with the Timberwolves picking Dunn during the last draft they have more reasons to cut ties with the Spanish playmaker. Dunn brings more shooting prowess than Rubio although that remains seen when the league formally gets underway.

Many say that Dunn is a more decent shooter, passer, and defender than Rubio. Thus, with the trade Rubio brings his game with the 76ers which really in need of someone who could space the floor with experience. Rubio is not efficient in scoring but his court vision could be of use for the 76ers. Aside from Rubio, taking in Muhammad could offer the 76ers an added option for a player coming off the bench.

Muhammad averages 10.5 points and 3.3 rebounds a game for the Timberwolves last season, he could be of value for coach Bret Brown. The 76ers tries to keep its roster healthy for the coming season. The team has injury curses and having Muhammad could prove fruitful for them.

Meanwhile, sending Okafor and Staukas to the Timberwolves would be valuable as well. Okafor could help strengthen their rim protection while Staukas could play a supporting role to both Zach LaVine and Brandon Rush.

The deal is plausible if both the Timberwolves and 76ers would agree to it. If they could not agree to do the deal before the formal start of the league, they could discuss it going to the trade deadline by Feb.

Rubio needs to get his shooting to a decent percentage for him to keep his job with the Timberwolves. If not then the team might reconsider the deal and make Tom Thibodeau pull the trigger.
