NFL Rumors: Jimmy Garoppolo is the best new starting QB for Week 1, says NFL expert

Week 1 of the 2016-17 NFL season saw some impressive debuts for several starting quarterbacks. According to the latest NFL rumors and one expert, Jimmy Garoppolo of the New England Patriots is the best new starting QB for the first week of the NFL season.

The 24-year-old QB started in place of Tom Brady, who is suspended for the first four games of the season. In the 23-21 Patriots win against the Arizona Cardinals, Garoppolo went 24-of-33 for 264 yards and one touchdown while having a quarterback rating of 106.1.

According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, Brady’s backup did an excellent job filling in for the future Hall of Famer. He added that Jimmy Garoppolo managed to win against a strong team without Rob Gronkowski, Dion Lewis, Rob Ninkovich, Nate Solder and Sebastian Vollmer.

“There was no Rob Gronkowski for the Patriots. No Dion Lewis. Both starting tackles were out of the contest. There was no Rob Ninkovich on defense. And still, the Patriots won. Of all the new starting quarterbacks this week, Garoppolo was the best,” Freeman reported.

Other new starting quarterbacks that had great debuts include Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. Wentz helped the Eagles defeat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, 29-10.

On the other hand, Prescott was impressive despite the 20-19 loss to the New York Giants. Tony Romo’s replacement showed poise in his first regular season game and he could have gotten the win if it was not for his teammates dropping the ball and forgetting to get out of bounds.

Nevertheless, the Patriots are in a great position with Jimmy Garoppolo as the starter for the next three games. New England might go undefeated without Tom Brady since Garoppolo will only face the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills.
