Cardinals vs. Patriots Preview

Arizona is looking to continue its domination on season openers at the University of Phoenix Stadium wherein they are 9-1. Head coach Bruce Arians needs to get Carson Palmer to perform better than he did during the preseason. The Cardinals went 1-3 in the preseason but the veteran coach is not worried about it.

“I’m extremely confident. We’ve had a great camp. We’ve had moments offensively and defensively that show what we’re capable of and I think we’ll be more than ready next Sunday night,” Arians said last week, via

On the other hand, New England has to contain running back David Johnson which is no easy task. He is one of the best pass catchers in the league last season despite being in his first year. He had an average of 12.7 yards per reception.

Backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has to fill in the void left by Tom Brady, who has been suspended for the first four games of the season. He also has to do it against the Cardinals secondary led by safety Tyrann Mathieu and cornerback Patrick Peterson.

The Patriots are also without All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski, per FOX Sports. Gronk is out with a hamstring injury he suffered in a preseason joint practice with the Chicago Bears last August 15.

Cardinals vs. Patriots Prediction

The loss of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski will be too much for the Patriots but they are going put up a great game. Cardinals defeat Patriots, 28-21.
