Colin Kaepernick’s protest has taken the NFL by storm and as a result, his uniform has sold like hot pancakes on every sports shelf. Nobody knows when he will stop with his protest but girlfriend DJ Nessa Diab hints that Kaepernick is ready to give proceeds of the sales to the community.
IBT reports that Diab shared Kaepernick’s Instagram post thanking people, who support his cause not to stand up every time the “Star – Spangled Banner” is sang. In his post, Kaepernick stated that he will continue his cause until racial discrimination is totally erased on U.S. soil. He added that in return for the outpouring support from the community, he will be giving proceeds of the sales of his uniform to charitable institutions.
“I want to thank everyone who has shown me love and support, it truly means a lot! I wasn’t expecting my jersey sales to jump to number one because of this, but it shows the people’s belief that we can do justice and equality for ALL!” he wrote on Instagram Wednesday. “The only way I can repay you for the support is to return the favor by donating all the proceeds I receive from my jersey sales back into the communities!”
Diab showed her support to her controversial boyfriend by posting Kaepernick’s on Twitter. Already the post has garnered some 120,000 likes and followers not counting Kaepernick’s 60,000 followers to his post.
Kaepernick has announced before that he will be donating $1 million to charitable organizations that support his cause. Just last week, Diab and Kaepernick gave out some $60,000 worth of bags to students in the south Bronx and Harlem of New York.
But as Kaepernick is doing charitable works following his protest, an old issue resurfaced. Rumors are swirling that Kaepernick is embracing Diab’s Muslim religion and ready to convert to Islam. News about the change on religious status surfaced last year after Diab confirmed that Kaepernick is down with the teachings of Islam and will have a Muslim wedding with Diab.
Kaepernick’s father, Rick, dismisses the rumors as he told USA Today in 2012 that his son is “fairly religious, but he’s not in your face about it.”
“It’s more about him and what he believes,” Rick Kaepernick said.
Many may not understand Kaepernick’s cause but other do as shown by the sales of his uniform. People like his girlfriend Diab understand what he is fighting for. It is not about religion but what Kaepernick believes is the truth happening in society today.
