Troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel is now eligible to sign with any NFL team now that his four-game suspension is over. The latest NFL rumors suggest that the San Francisco 49ers might be desperate enough to sign Manziel for the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old QB was waived by the Cleveland Browns for his involvement in an alleged domestic violence incident in March. He was then suspended by the NFL in June for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
Charles Rahrig V of FanSided opined that the 49ers are desperate enough to sign Johnny Manziel due to their current situation. San Francisco is currently 1-4 and it’s getting clear that Blaine Gabbert is not the answer in their QB position.
“Just imagine Johnny Manziel in a Chip Kelly offense. The two enigmas almost seem like a perfect marriage of chaos and coincidence that the world needs to endure. The 49ers have nothing to lose by taking a flyer on him either near the end of the season,” Rahrig V noted.
The 49ers still has backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick but the team has no plans on using him despite the fans chanting his name, per FOX Sports. It is noted that it has nothing to do with his anthem protest and it was just a football decision.
Nevertheless, these are just NFL rumors at the moment and should be taken with a grain of salt. Johnny Manziel has started taking classed back in Texas A&M but there is a slight chance that he will get signed by an NFL team.
As a starter for the Browns, Manziel has a record of 2-6 with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has also thrown for a total of 1,675 yards.
