NFL Rumors: 49ers trading Colin Kaepernick to Colts or Seahawks as backup after restructuring contract?

49ers to cut Colin Kaepernick before the season starts? As Eagles Myke Tavarres plans to follow his cause

The San Francisco 49ers and Colin Kaepernick agreed to restructure the contract of the veteran quarterback. This could lead to a Kaepernick trade from San Francisco with the new deal appealing to other NFL teams, according to rumors.

The team confirmed the restructured deal for Kaepernick last Wednesday to start the speculations that the veteran QB will be traded soon. According to reports, the new deal will remove some guaranteed money for Kaepernick, which means lesser risk for San Francisco or other NFL team that acquires him in a trade.

With the new restructured deal, Kaepernick has the chance to become an unrestricted free agent in March 2017, or after the current NFL season. He can void the final four years in the contract but has a chance to join another NFL team if his playing time situation in San Francisco does not improve.

According to NFL rumors, Colin Kaepernick trade to the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints. But it’s all speculations at this point.

“We’re not sure how likely the Colts would be to bring in a controversial player such as Kaepernick, but we do know that the Nevada Wolfpack legend would be an upgrade over the backup options they currently have on their roster,” Cheat Sheet stated in an article.

For the Kaepernick trade to Seahawks scenario to happen, the writer stated:

“Kaepernick would have to be willing to go to a team that he once considered his most bitter rival in the NFL, and be willing to accept the fact that he wouldn’t see the field without an injury to Russell Wilson,” the article added.

“Regardless of politics or not, he has a very, very big uphill battle to make this team. I’d be shocked if he’s on the 49ers by the time this season ends. It has nothing to do with political views whatsoever. He lost a ton of weight this offseason, had three surgeries, couldn’t work out, lost that double threat, that size-speed ratio,” NFL Insider Jay Glazer stated in a recent article.

Kaepernick signed a six-year $115 million deal in June 2014 but he lost his starting job last season.

SF 49ers head coach Chip Kelly stated Tuesday that Kapernick will start in their next game, against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6 on Sunday. Kaepernick will take over the starting QB spot taken by Blaine Gabbert in the first five games of the regular season.
