NFL Rumors: Jared Goff is a bust? No. 1 pick has something in common with JaMarcus Russell

The Los Angeles Rams gave up a lot to select Jared Goff first overall in the 2016 NFL Draft but he is not even their backup quarterback. The latest NFL rumors imply that Goff could end up being a bust and he also has something in common with JaMarcus Russell, who is the 2007 No. 1 overall pick and one of the greatest busts in history.

The Rams traded six draft picks, including their first and third round picks next year, to the Tennessee Titans in order to acquire the 2016 first overall pick. However, Goff has been disappointing this preseason and he ended up being LA’s third-string QB behind Case Keenum and Sean Mannion.

In a recent Q&A with the media last week, Rams head coach Jeff Fisher revealed that they are happy with Goff’s development despite not being good enough to be a backup. He noted that they are preaching patience for their first overall pick and the future face of the franchise.

“He’s much better now than he was when we started. He has made significant progress. He’s comfortable. He understands things. He has progressed,” Fisher said, via Rich Hammond of Orange County Register.

NFL rumors in LA suggest that the coaching staff is going to be patient with their rookie quarterback. However, John Breech of CBS Sports pointed out that Jared Goff has something in common with 2007 first overall pick and QB bust, JaMarcus Russell.

“If Goff’s not the starting quarterback when the Rams open the regular season on Sept. 12, and he won’t be, then Goff will become the first quarterback taken No. 1 overall since JaMarcus Russell to not start in his team’s opening game,” Breech reported.

However, it should be noted that Goff might not be a bust but it is worrying that he can’t even beat someone like Case Keenum or Sean Mannion for a starting spot. NFL rumors will continue to swirl about Goff and the LA Rams as the season rolls on.
