NFL Rumors: Panthers, Lions battling to acquire Joe Thomas from the Browns?

The Cleveland Browns are currently the only winless team in the NFL six weeks into the season and they are likely heading for a rebuild. The latest NFL rumors suggest that Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions are battling to acquire offensive tackle Joe Thomas from the Browns.

According to Bleacher Report, many teams are expected to call the Browns front office and inquire about Thomas, as well as cornerback Joe Haden. The nine-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle was almost traded to the Denver Broncos last season but a deal did not go through.

Instead of having a Super Bowl ring, Joe Thomas is still looking for his first win of the season as the Browns continue to struggle. However, the Browns might pull a trigger on a Thomas trade if they like an offer.

Joseph Karbousky of The Inquisitr noted that the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions could be two of the teams that might want to get Thomas from the Browns. He added that the Wisconsin native is still at the top of his game and will warrant a lot of assets in return.

“If the Browns did have interest in dealing Thomas, there would be several teams interested in hearing what Cleveland wanted in return, possibly the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers,” Karbousky reported.

However, there is still a chance that Joe Thomas will remain in Cleveland despite all the NFL rumors. According to Pat McManamon of ESPN, the six-time All-Pro has not asked for a trade and he is not going to ask before the deadline despite playing for a winless team.

“The Browns do not comment on trades or potential trades, but the team has made it clear in the past months it does not want to trade Thomas. Coach Hue Jackson has had nothing but positive things to say about his left tackle as well,” McManamon noted.

It should be pointed out that these are just NFL rumors at the moment. The Browns like Joe Thomas and they do not need to trade unless he asks for it. Cleveland is currently the worst team in the NFL but that is a good thing since they will end up with the first overall pick in next year’s draft.
