No. 3 Syracuse defeated by Villanova in OT
Ryan Arcidiacono led Villanova to a big win against No. 3 Syracuse in overtime Saturday.
It was three pointers that sent the Wildcats into a win. Arcidiacono shot the game tying 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds left in the 2nd half that sent the game into overtime. In overtime, James Bell hit consecutive 3-pointers to help bring on the 75-71 victory.
All Villanova fans have to be crazy excited since on Tuesday the Wildcats defeated No. 5 Louisville, 73-64. Next up on Wednesday is No. 24 Notre Dame.
Villanova still is not going to be ranked in the AP Top 25 but they sure are in the conversation and have everyone’s attention now.
Coach Jay Wright was thrilled with the team’s victory. “In this league, if you play with a high level of consistency, you’re still going to lose some games, but if you’re not playing with a high level of consistency, you’re going to lose a lot of games. This game was really the first time we were able to make adjustments and execute. We’ve had some games where we were able to make adjustments, but didn’t do it well. This game, we did both,” he said, according to philly.com.
This was unexpected for this season especially since five of the eight in regular rotation are either freshmen or sophomores. This includes three of the starters.
This team has most certainly become a fun one to watch and a great story is unfolding for the Wildcats. It will be interesting to see what happens with the team in the future.
