Novak Djokovic moves into Australian Open final

The number one ranked men’s tennis player in the world Novak Djokovic beat the number four-ranked and seeded Andy Murray in their semifinal match on Friday.

Novak Djokovic’s win over Andy Murray did not come easily, as Murray gave the number one seed all that he could handle and then some. According to Reuters, Djokovic admitted after the match that Murray had an equal chance of winning it. This is what Djokovic told members of the media after his semifinal match with Murray.

“Both of us believed that we can win, and that’s how we played. It could have easily gone the other way. He was a couple of points away from winning the match, so I was lucky to go as a winner.”

It took Djokovic five tough sets to finally beat Murray. Djokovic jumped out early in the match winning the first set 6-3. Murray proceeded to win the second and third sets 6-3, 7-6.  At that point it looked as if Murray would be able to knockoff the word’s number one. However, Djokovic proved that he deserves to be the number one player in the world, by storming back to win the fourth and fifth sets 6-1, 7-5.

According to the BBC, Murray achieved a record that no other player has been able to achieve. Murray has lost in the semifinals in four straight grand slam championships. Although Murray can pat himself on the back for giving Djokovic all that he could handle, at the end of the day he again failed to capture his first grand slam title.
