It seems like Daniel Craig might not be hanging his suit, gun, exploding light bulbs, hunting knife and car (among others) at the moment, as the actor recently hinted that he may not be ready to let go of his iconic James Bond character, yet. Speaking to the media at the New Yorker Fest, Craig shared that playing 007 is “the best job in the world,” and if he ever had to stop playing the role, that he “would miss it terribly.”
But Craig also made it clear that at this point, there are still no definite plans for him and the execs of the 007 series.
“It doesn’t…there’s no conversation going on, and genuinely because everybody’s just a bit tired,” said Craig in reference to their plans after Spectre.
The last time Craig was asked about his keenness to return to the big screen as James Bond, though, many will remember his response to the question- would you film another Bond movie?
“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” the actor replied in the Time Out interview last year. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”
Though he went on to give a more ambiguous answer when he was asked if he was quitting for good, adding “I haven’t given it any thought. For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the f*** knows?”
James Bond execs want Daniel Craig back for a role?
At this point, it seems like it’s all up to Craig, as James Bond execs had already made it clear that he is the obvious “first choice” of the company.
“We love Daniel,” shared Callum McDougall, executive producer of the recent 007 films. “We would love Daniel to return as Bond. Without any question, he is absolutely Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli’s (of Eon productions, the company behind the Bond films) first choice.”
