The Fox’s science fiction series Wayward Pines was set to be an event series, having only 10 episodes. Now, it has just aired its 20th episode for the finale of its sophomore season. The question now is: Will there be a Season 3?
As the Abbeys seek to attack the town in the finale entitled “Bedtime Story”, the fate of the human race hangs by a thread. The entire town is at-risk and uncertain. And this holds true to the series itself as well. As of the moment, there is still no official statement from Fox on the renewal of the series for a third season.
A huge reason for this apparent hesitation on the part of Fox would be the recent ratings that the show has garnered. According to a report from Movie News Guide, the recent episodes have not been great. Specifically, the episode prior to the final got a 0.7 rating or just 2 million viewers. This is way below the average of the series which is 1.1 or around 4 million viewers in total per episode.
Still, fans are hopeful that their beloved series will get its nod of approval for one final season. The plot has a lot more to offer. The finale has left even more questions that pique the interest of the crowd. Executive Producer M. Night Shyamalan has always been vocal that Wayward Pines is a three-season story.
That said, hope springs eternal for the followers who have been wondering what happens to the human race as Abbey’s flood the town and run them over. For now, avid followers can just pray that Fox has enough faith in the series and its storytellers to give it a go signal despite the subpar returns from its recent episodes.
