Pau Gasol key to Los Angeles Lakers win
The Los Angeles Lakers have had a tough season. They cannot catch a break since Dwight Howard was out Friday with shoulder issues. The Lakers then came out with a win on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
This win was in part due to Pau Gasol coming back to the starting lineup. Now that Gasol has shown what he can still do, hopefully coach Mike D’Antoni will put him in for more minutes.
The Lakers beat the Timberwolves 111-100. Gasol scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds. Kobe Bryant scored 17 points, had 12 rebounds and eight assists. Steve Nash also had 17 points and added seven assists to the stat line.
“Just stay with it, keep playing. You never know when things can change direction. Just play your game when you’re out there. Tonight I was able to start, play more minutes, get a good flow. It was a good game,” Gasol said, according to the Associated Press.
The team has been playing better as they go on throughout the season. Sadly, Dwight Howard has been sitting out with injuries multiple times this season and his shoulder is going to be an issue for the rest of the season.
“Even if we shut him down for two months, it’s still going to be there. The next time he gets hit, it’s going to hurt him. It’s a pain thing,” said D’Antoni, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The big adjustment that seems to be working is when Bryant is making plays not trying to make baskets. The star knows that is how he can help the team and he is confident that he can score if it is ever needed. ”The last thing I’m worried about is my shooting and scoring. The scoring thing, I can turn it on at any time,” Bryant said.
Hopefully, the Lakers can find a way to have Gasol and Howard excel when they are on the court together. Their record is now 21-26.
