Donald Trump gets big boost from former NY Mayor Rudy Giuliani

Donald Trump’s bid for the US presidency is getting a big boost from New York City’s former mayor Rudy Giuliani. According to Giuliani’s spokesman Jake Menges that the former New York City mayor considers Trump ‘a friend,’ and that Giuliani would back Trump over his rival Ted Cruz.

“I support Trump. I’m gonna vote for Trump,” Giuliani told The New York Post on Thursday, via the Washington Examiner.

“Trump is a negotiator. He negotiates from a high bar to get people’s attention. Threatening to withdraw from NATO will get a better deal with NATO,” Giuliani added, via the Washington Examiner.

Giuliani said he was concerned about the personal attacks in the GOP primary and that he doesn’t agree with all of Trump’s positions but supports Trump’s focus on the economy, immigration and national security.

Giuliani, which is New York’s Republican mayor from 1994-2001, said that Trump will win more than 50 percent of the statewide vote on his way to secure a majority of the New York state’s 95 delegates.

“It’s a question of how much he gets over 50 percent. If he wins 70 to 80 delegates, Donald has a good shot of securing the 1,237 delegates to secure the nomination before the convention,” said Giuliani, via the Washington Examiner.

According to a recent poll made by Real Clear Politics, Donald Trump edges Ted Cruz in New York by roughly 30 points.

The former mayor also added that Trump is well-positioned and had a ‘good shot’ at securing the Republican nomination.

Trump’s tough rival Ted Cruz had already made comments in the past about the real estate billionaire representing ‘New York values,’ a dog-whistle to conservatives concerned with family values. The comments seemed to take aim at Trump’s history of womanizing and marriages.

More recently, Cruz has claimed that he had a strong grip at New York City’s liberal political class, but Giuliani wasn’t impressed.

‘It’s New York City. We’re family. I can make fun of New York, But you can’t!’ Giuliani told the New York Post, via the Washington Examiner .

In addition, Giuliani shot down rumors that he was scheduled to meet with Trump’s tough rival Ted Cruz. Giuliani said that he’s on Cruz’s camp in Austin, Texas, where he planned to have a courtesy meeting with Gov. Gregg Abbott.
