Rafael Nadal suffers shocking loss in comeback tournament
In his return from a knee injury to the ATP World Tour former world No. 1 Rafael Nadal lost in the VTR Open singles and doubles tournament finals on Sunday.
He told the ATP World Tour’s Website, “The knee is still bothering me, but you have to face adversity with the best possible face and look forward to keep working and enjoy what I like the most.”
Nadal lost the singles final in three sets, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (6) 4-6, to Argentinean Horacio Zeballos. It was only Nadal’s fifth loss in 41 clay court finals and world No. 43 Zeballos’ first career Tour title.
Despite the loss, Nadal looked at the bright side after the match and said he had a positive week and the most important thing were the feelings he felt with one of the best crowds he has ever had in his life, according to CNN.
In the doubles final, Nadal and his Argentinean partner Juan Monaco lost the doubles final to Italians Potito Starace and Paolo Lorenzi, 6-2, 6-4.
Nadal will continue testing his knee at this week’s Brazil Open in Sao Paulo.
