Rio Olympics 2016 Basketball: Tony Parker the hero in France’s comeback win over Serbia

Tony Parker saved France as they beat Serbia, 76-75, in the group stages of the men’s basketball tournament of the Rio Olympics 2016. The San Antonio Spurs point guard made the clutch jumper with 31 seconds left in the game and the French squad grabbed their second victory in the group stages.

Serbia had a chance to steal the win but Bogdan Bogdanovic missed a long three-pointer at the buzzer as Serbia lost their second consecutive game to drop to 1-2 in the tournament.

The Serbians were in control for much of the final quarter and had a 75-70 lead with 3:25 to go in the game. However, they would go scoreless and the French capped the 6-0 run to end the game with the Parker game-winner.

Euroleague Most Valuable Player Nando de Colo led the way with 22 points and three other French players, Nicolas Batum (11) of the Charlotte Hornets, Joffrey Lauvergne (12) of the Denver Nuggets and Boris Diaw (11) of the Utah Jazz finished in double-figure scoring.

Diaw also had 9 rebounds and 9 assists to show his all-around game in international basketball. Parker settled for just 6 points the whole game but netted the most important basket for France.

Serbia, which was led by center Miroslav Raduljica’s 16 points, will end the group stages with games against the United States and China. Their last game against the Chinese would likely decide if they will advance to the quarterfinals of the basketball tournament in Rio.
