Leo Messi dislikes comparison; Ronaldo: ‘I’m always the best’

The idea of comparing two of soccer’s most renowned players, Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, is tempting and engaging. However, Messi thinks the opposite of it, in fact, Messi reportedly dislikes comparing him to Ronaldo, while Ronaldo claimed to be the best.

This comparison between Messi and Ronaldo are not only confined to the realm of avid soccer fans; some known players are cognizant of the great rivalry between the two superstars. Even former Barca and now Al-Sadd player Xavi Hernandez bluntly stated that Messi is better than Ronaldo, in both mind and body.

“Messi is the best player in the world. In football, there are two important factors: fitness and intelligence. Ronaldo is very fit but Messi has both the fitness and the intelligence, so in short, Messi is better.” Xavi told The New Arab.

However, though some players would consider Messi as someone on top of Ronaldo, the five-time FIFA Ballon d’Or winner views the surfacing rumors and reports of the rivalry in soccer differently. As recently reported by Daily Mail, Messi speaks about the comparison via Egyptian TV station MBC.

“The press looks to compare among other things. All I want is to help my team to grow each season. I don’t compare myself to Cristiano nor to anyone. I only try to think of me, of my team-mates and win games.”

As to the reports own phrasing, “Lionel Messi insists he does not compare himself to Cristiano Ronaldo.”

However, in contrast to the implicit denial of Leo Messi to acknowledge these rumors and statements, it can be remembered that Cristiano Ronaldo has his own take with the constant comparison.

“In my mind, I’m always the best. I don’t care what people think, what they say. In my mind, not just this year but always, I’m always the best.

It’s opinions, I respect the opinions. Maybe in your opinion, Messi is better than me, but in my mind, I am better than him. So it’s simple,” Ronaldo told BBC as highlighted by ESPN.

Though there is no direct claim for superiority by Ronaldo, it can still be surmised that there is nothing in the mind without passing through the senses.
