NBA Rumors: Boston Celtics eyeing Kevin Durant and Jimmy Butler to revive 2007 Garnett-Allen tandem

Rumors and speculations are now swirling with the Boston Celtics who are pursuing to acquire Kevin Durant and Jimmy Butler in the upcoming offseason.

Most NBA teams, including the Boston Celtics, are giving a shot in signing the top free agent in the upcoming off-season, the Oklahoma City Thunder star forward Kevin Durant. They are making their own recipe and unique strategy to make Durant sign for their team.

According to Yahoo Sports, Boston Celtics believe that Durant will meet them in summer to have private talks about his free agency but they admitted that they have to make certain adjustments, including signing an additional superstar for their team.

Kevin Durant is not the type of player who thinks ahead of his future but rather focus on what he is currently doing now. It will really be hard to get the service of the superstar if the Oklahoma City Thunder will make it to the NBA finals and finally grab the title.

According to CBS Sports, the Vertical is suggesting to Boston Celtics owner Danny Ainge to do what he did in 2007. They tried to lure Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves but Garnett’s agent was adamant and did not agree with the deal. However, their decision change after the Boston Celtics acquire Ray Allen that made Garnett said yes to Celtics.

The Garnett-Allen tandem led the Celtics to win the 2008 NBA championship title beating the Los Angeles Lakers, which was considered their greatest rival. Also, the Celtics managed to finish a 66-16 record in the 2007-08 NBA season under Doc Rivers.

The said plan will be working if the Celtics will sign a Ray Allen-caliber player and the person in their mind is Jimmy Butler. Butler may not be a free agent but Ainge is the type of person who can make a way to get the player he wants just like he did with Allen.

Getting Butler could be a huge bait for Durant to sign for the Boston Celtics. If the Celtics will be perfectly executing their plan, they will surely be a big threat in the 2016-17 NBA season.
