Could the San Antonio Spurs consider changing a franchise big man in the upcoming season? According to NBA trade rumors, there is a chance that the Texas team will deal away LaMarcus Aldridge, if he does not perform par with the team’s expectations in the 2016-2017 NBA Season.
ESPN’s Zach Lowe contends that the Spurs should consider trading Aldridge, either he plays well or not in the upcoming season.
“The Spurs will see if this team outperforms expectations. If it doesn’t, they should take calls on Aldridge. He’s really good, and there are a lot of impatient owners chasing immediate gratification,” Lowe wrote in a NBA “crazy predictions” article.
“If opportunism meets desperation, the Spurs could fleece some rival and restock with a bundle of assets that better line up with Leonard’s timetable.”

Lowe noted that Aldridge is already 31 years old, and does not fit with the long-term plan of pairing him with young star Kawhi Leonard, who is just 25 years old. The belief in San Antonio is that if they are not good enough to beat the Golden State Warriors this season, the Spurs can try to move Aldridge and get younger for a better long-term situation.
Lowe added in the same article that, “it’s ridiculous to worry about the Spurs” because of their winning tradition and past history but Lowe said that defense and rebounding should be worse compared to last season because of the aging front court that features free agency acquisition Pau Gasol.
Lowe even predicted that the Los Angeles Clippers will outplay the Spurs this season and will end up as the second seed in the West.
One trade that can happen is a straight swap between Memphis and San Antonio involving Marc Gasol and Aldridge.
Gasol is coming off a major surgery but his passing will be highly valued with the Spurs. Aldridge can also fit better in Memphis because he is the better scorer and will fit alongside Chandler Parsons and Mike Conley with the Grizzlies.
Is this blockbuster one-for-one deal, LaMarcus Aldridge for Marc Gasol, good for both teams?
The Spurs and Grizzlies have different expectations in the upcoming season. If both struggle this new season, these NBA trade rumors will hit the headlines as both teams will look to make major changes.
