Russ Smith to return to Louisville for his final year
After being indecisive on whether or not to go to the NBA, Russ Smith announced Wednesday that he will be returning to Louisville for his senior season.
“I really realized how much I enjoyed playing with my teammates and how much fun it is to win,” Smith said.
Minutes after Louisville won the national championship, his father said that he was headed to the NBA. However, Smith never had a positive answer on whether or not he would leave college to the pros.
Many basketball analysts were saying that Smith was too small for his position. Even coach Rick Pitino agreed saying that Smith needs to add 10 pounds of muscle in order to become a 1st round draft pick, according to the Courier-Journal.
Smith’s return to Louisville will not only help his draft stock for next year’s NBA draft, but he will be able to be the first one in his family to receive a college degree, according to the Associated Press. He will also have the chance to repeat as national champions if Louisville reaches the finals.
“With the group we got coming back, I want to go out as a winner as well as get my degree,” said Smith.
