Saints ready to hire Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator
After being fired as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys on Jan. 8 Rob Ryan will be hired to the same role with the New Orleans Saints.
The St. Louis Rams showed interest in Ryan last week and visited with him twice but he was not hired to the position because his scheme did not fit, ESPN reported.
There is little doubt he will get the job this time because a league source told NBC’s Pro Football Talk that the hiring is “basically a done deal.”
Ryan will be taking over a defense that gave up a league worst 440.1 yards per game and allowed the most yards than any other defense in NFL history. Steve Spagnuolo led that group and was fired on Jan. 24.
The Saints are hiring a coach that led a Cowboys defense ranked 19th in total defense and 24th in scoring defense in the NFL.
New Orleans also interviewed University of Georgia defensive coordinator Todd Grantham for the position, according to The Times-Picayune.
