Sandy Koufax returns to Dodgers as special advisor
The Dodgers have announced the return of their legendary hall of fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. He will return to the team as a ‘special advisor’ to the club’s new chairman Mark Walter.
MLB.com reports Koufax will join former teammate Maury Wills at Dodgers Spring Training next month. Koufax will reportedly work with the Dodger’s pitching staff there and will also serve as an advisor to the team throughout the year.
According to USA Today, Koufax resides in Vero Beach, Florida, where the Dodgers had held Spring Training until 2009, team moved to Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.
Koufax has worked with Dodger pitchers in Spring Training already on several occasions, but this new position will have him involved in a much higher capacity– and with a lot more travel.
Dodgers’ new ownership brass expressed in a press release how excited they are to have Sandy back in the organization.
The news release also includes a rare public statement from the usually private Koufax, explaining his new role and expressing excitement at the prospect of helping bring success to the team.
“I’m delighted to be back with the Dodgers,” the legendary pitcher said. “I’m looking forward to spending time with the team during Spring Training and to contributing in any way I can to help make the team a success for the fans of Los Angeles. Some of my most cherished memories came at Dodger Stadium.”
