SEC dominating college football rankings once again

In recent years, the SEC has become the most dominant conference in college football and this season is no exception.

The second BCS rankings, released on Monday, have four SEC teams in the Top 10 and six in the Top 13, with South Carolina falling just outside the Top 10 this week and unbeaten Mississippi State moving all the way up to #11.  According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, this is the second straight week the conference has had four teams ranked inside the top ten.

Moreover, the SEC is currently home to the two best teams in the nation, as Alabama and Florida rank first and second overall.  The two teams do not face each other in the regular season, but a matchup in the SEC Championship game looms, with the winner no doubt headed to the BCS National Championship Game.

This is the 12th straight week that an SEC team is on top of the BCS standings, tying the longest stretch in BCS history, according to ESPN.com.

It remains to be seen how the rest of the year will shake out, but it appears the SEC will once again have multiple teams in BCS bowls.
