English Premier League (EPL) club Chelsea are reportedly set to offer Serie A club AC Milan $39.57 million for center-back Alessio Romagnoli. Despite being young, the 21-year-old is rated highly in Italy and is destined to become a world-class defender in the future.
The transfer amount could rise up to $45.27 million including add-ons, but Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is interested to sign the Italian center-back. Milan however, are desperate to keep hold of Romagnoli as they are aware of his boundless talent. But, they could be tempted to sell if they find a suitable replacement by the end of the summer transfer window, as reported by Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian.
After surviving the initial shaky start to his career at AC Milan, Romagnoli went on to cement his place as the first choice center-back for the Rossoneri. The player has a composed and authoritative defensive style to his play which helped the Italian club look more stable at the back.
Romagnoli is also a left-footed player which makes him extra effective at the back. With unlimited potential under his bag, Chelsea could see a price of $45.27 million being a coup in the future.
Chelsea is in need of a center-back for a long time. With John Terry nearing his retirement, they require a player who will lead the line into the future. Romagnoli is the perfect player for the position which the Blues could chose at the moment.
Romagnoli would give a youthful presence to Chelsea’s current defensive setup. Aside from being left-footed, he can distribute the ball well and has an artistic style to his play, which will help spice up the football at Stamford Bridge.
However, Serie A is the breeding ground for defenders. It will be interesting to see what Romagnoli decides regarding his future. If he decides to stay in Milan, he will choose the grandest club of the league to aid his development into the world-class defender he is tipped to be.
