Argentina will take on Venezuela in the third quarter finals of the Copa Centenario 2016 at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Saturday night. Lionel Messi insisted that there is a lot more to come from the Argentine side.
Argentina, the hot favorites to win the Copa America won all their three matches in the group stage, despite missing Messi’s glorious touches in most of them.
The blue and white stripes will produce quality soccer as the tournament progresses, feels Messi.
“We are doing well in all aspects. We have already been working together for a while and have got to know the coaching staff, and they us. From the beginning until now, we have grown a lot.” Messi said, according to ESPN.
The odds are highly favoring the two-time world champions ahead of this quarterfinal tie. Gerardo Martino’s team is playing like true champions in recent times and are undefeated in their last nine games. They are also on a seven game winning streak.
Messi sat out in the opener against Chile due to a back problem but showed his form by netting a hat trick against Panama in the next game. Argentina cruised to the knock-out stage from Group D and are now up against a Venezuelan team, which is capable of pulling off an upset win. Venezuela defeated 15-time Copa champions Uruguay in a Group C encounter and also won against Jamaica before settling for a draw against Mexico in their final group match.
Despite being touted as the comfortable favorites, Messi is not taking Rafael Dudamel’s side lightly.
“We are aware there is no margin for error. Very tough matches are coming. Some think Venezuela are an easy opponent but they are not. We will not take anything for granted, we know what is at stake.” the Barcelona forward said.
