German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund center-back Neven Subotic has confirmed that he wants to leave the club for more playing time and Liverpool is free to negotiate with the player for a transfer. The defender had to experience an injury clad campaign last season and is keen to reunite with his former manager Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
After his injury, Subotic found it hard to get back into Dortmund’s starting eleven regularly. Die Borussen manager Thomas Tuchel slowly pushed the man from Banja Luka, SFR Yugoslavia down the pecking order.
The Serbian then took to Social Media to confirm his wish of joining a new club for first-team football.
“Dear friends, during the last year I realized that my love for the game of football in an active role is too big to just be able to see it from outside. Football is an important part of my life. I love it and I can’t be without it,” Subotic wrote on his official Facebook page.
He also added that he doesn’t want to earn money sitting on the bench and wants to be part of a club’s history by performing on the field. He mentioned that Dortmund will always remain in his heart and will always be the club he loves.
The 27-year-old could be a fantastic addition at Liverpool, where Klopp is looking to add a central defender to his squad. The German is preparing to sell Martin Skrtel this summer and Subotic will be his perfect replacement, as reported by The Sun.
Frieder Gramm, Subotic’s agent also revealed recently that he is looking for a new club for his client. The 27-year-old is unlikely to find any playing time staying at Dortmund and will be better for his career to move elsewhere.
