Manchester United appointed new manager Jose Mourinho with a hope that the Portuguese will guide the team back to winning ways, keeping their entertainment quotient intact. The first test for the former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager in the English Premier League (EPL) is an interesting encounter with Bournemouth, away from home.
Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side started their Premier League campaign with an unconvincing victory over Sunderland on Saturday. This has raised the stakes for Mourinho and United to start off their campaign with a victory. Anything less than that would be regarded as added pressure.
Manchester United started the campaign with a victory over last season’s champions Leicetser City in the Community Shield. Mourinho and his men would want to continue that momentum against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth.
The Red Devils will need to rely on their star power to give them an added advantage in the encounter. The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs to show their class in order for United to get a comfortable victory in their Premier League opener.
For fans who were wishing to see the debut of world-record transfer signing Paul Pogba from Juventus, they have to wait for some more time as the Frenchman is suspended for United’s encounter against Bournemouth. The 23-year-old received two yellow cards in the Coppa Italia, last season. The second one was received during his final game for Juventus in the finals of the competition, as reported by Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth will be looking to make a mark against Manchester United by pulling off an upset at home. The 38-year-old Howe is a respected English manager who already has gained a brilliant reputation after defeating Louis Van Gaal’s Red Devils last season. A win for the Cherries will make sure that they are able to make waves in the Premier League this season as well.
Bournemouth: Junior Stanislas and Tyrone Mings is ruled out for the game. It has to be noted that Stanislas scored against United last season.
Manchester United: Paul Pogba will be missing the encounter due to a suspension. Chris Smalling is also suspended, although the defender has missed much of pre-season due to an injury and would have probably missed this match altogether.
