FC Barcelona’s Dani Alves has officially said his goodbye to the Catalan club where he spent most of his career, breaking the hearts of many fans and leaving a legacy with his accomplishments.
Barca sporting director Roberto Fernandez confirmed on Thursday that Alves has confirmed with Barca that he wants to leave and has decided to go, and although he said that he hated for Dani Alves to go because he is an “extraordinary player and is very loved,” they have to accept his decision. He also mentioned that Alves’ contract has already expired last year, but the club could not replace him because of the transfer ban given to the club by FIFA.
The Spanish club has released a statement on their official site, thanking Alves for his eight years with the club wherein he is the foreign player with the second most appearances and has won 23 trophies. The club has also invited Alves to come at the start of the next season to officially bid farewell to the Barca fans.
The Brazilian defender has also released an emotional message for the club and the fans on his Instagram account.
“With this letter I do not say farewell, I just want to let you know that I made the decision to seek a new challenge in my career. This is my time. I go, but I will return, because I’m a Cule. Thanks for making me feel so loved.” Dani Alves said in the last part of the statement.
There is no official announcement yet regarding Dani Alves’ next destination, but speculations are spreading that the Brazilian is set to transfer to Juventus and sign a 2-year contract with the Serie A champions.
