English Premier League (EPL) club Chelsea have reportedly submitted a transfer bid worth $55 million for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker Edison Cavani. The Uruguayan striker is one of the top targets at Stamford Bridge as manager Antonio Conte wants to strengthen his striking force.
The 29-year-old has been constantly linked with various clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United over the course of the last few seasons. But, this looks like the season when Chelsea will beat its rivals to capture the striker, according to Le 10 Sport.
The 2014/15 Premier League champions had the worst title defense in the history of the game last season and that was mainly down to the injury and lack of form of Diego Costa. The Blues want to improve on that situation this year.
Cavani played second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG until now. However, with the Swede moving on to Manchester United this summer, it will open up more first-team opportunities for the striker should he decide to stay.
The man from Salto, Uruguay appeared 32 times for PSG in the French Ligue 1 last season scoring 19 goals for the club. He had a shot accuracy of 59% and created 23 chances for the team. He also has a pass accuracy of 85%, according to Squawka.
It is being reported that the French club wants a minimum of $87.86 million for the striker. They consider the value paid by Chelsea to be extremely less, considering the quality of the player they possess.
However, will the Stamford Bridge hierarchy decide to spend that sort of money for a 29-year-old? It has to be seen.
