PSG superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has confirmed that he will be leaving the French champions this summer and join a new one. According to the latest rumors, Ibrahimovic may be joining the MLS and the Los Angeles Galaxy are already negotiating with him.
In a statement released by the Swedish striker via GOAL.com, he thanked the club, his teammates and the fans. Zlatan Ibrahimovic played a total of four years for PSG where he won a total of 11 trophies including four consecutive Ligue 1 titles.
“I loved every day I’ve spent here. Paris Saint-Germain has become a STAR club in the world and I played a key role moving it forward. It is now the right time for me to take a different path,” Ibrahimovic said.
“I would like to thank my teammates, the technical staff and all the people in the club. My heart is with the fans. They were amazing from the first day I came here. They are the best fans in France. It is not a farewell but only an AU REVOIR. I came like a king, I leave like a legend but I will be back.”
According to ESPN, the 34-year-old striker is linked with the Los Galaxy besides Manchester United and his former club, AC Milan. The report noted that LA Galaxy president Chris Klein did not give any comments when he was contacted.
There is still no concrete information regarding Ibrahimovic’s next club, but one source told ESPN to expect the flamboyant striker to end up in the United States.
“I think it’s going to happen,” the source said.
However, Galaxy will have to acquire his discovery rights that are held by the Philadelphia Union. The five-time MLS champions also have the max number of designated players: Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane and Giovani dos Santos.
Nonetheless, Gerrard has expressed his interest in going back to England to play for Liverpool again while Keane has hinted about retirement after the season. The possible way for Galaxy to get Zlatan Ibrahimovic is to loan him until January before unveiling him in Hollywood at the start of the 2017 MLS Season.
