English Premier League (EPL) club, Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will not leave Stamford Bridge this summer. The 24-year-old has settled the nerves of the club supporters by saying that he wants to become one of the best goalkeepers in world football by playing for the Blues.
“I am very happy at Chelsea and want to stay. I will show in every game that I am one of the best keepers in the world. Am I upset the fans have the wrong impression of me? Yes, of course. I don’t want them to think bad of me.” Courtois said, as reported by London Evening Standard.
Chelsea had a disastrous outing last season in the Premier League and the Belgium international goalkeeper was one of the players who under performed. He failed to reproduce his former form and this led to speculations that he will make an exit from the club this summer.
Courtois will make his first competitive outing for the Blues this season against West Ham on Monday evening. The man from Bree, Belgium will be hoping of producing a result capable of impressive the club’s new manager, Antonio Conte.
The 24-year-old made his switch to Stamford Bridge from Belgian club Genk in 2011. However, he was quickly sent on loan to La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid. This led to an amazing development of the player and he went on to feature in the Champions League final for the Spanish club.
Chelsea fans would be delighted to hear the news of their favorite No. 1 deciding to stay at the club for a foreseeable future. It will be interesting to see how Courtois performs against West Ham United after he has pledged his loyalty to the Blues.
