“I respect his decision, but football without Messi isn’t football, it’s hard to imagine it without him. If you like football at all, then you can’t help but admire Messi and everything he’s achieved for Argentina and Barcelona,” he said.

He also said Messi is not only a friend but also his idol, Bleacher Report mentioned.

“Messi is not only my friend, he is also my idol, and I will always support him. I can imagine what he is going through,” Neymar cited.

Since the 2007, 2015, and 2016 Copa America finals, Messi had been on the losing side. He told the media during interviews that he tried his best but things didn’t work out as he expected.

“That is it. I fought hard. This is the fourth final I couldn’t win. I would like to win for the national team more than anybody, but I think it’s not for me. This is it. This is my decision. I fought hard. I did everything I could do to win,” Messi stated.

He added, “But the truth is this is it. It’s already been four finals. I was already thinking about it. I did everything I could. It was not possible to win. It ended again, the same way with penalties. This is is, unfortunately, that’s the way it is. This is it.”

“We knew it was going to be a very hard fought match, especially in the midfield. Around there, we didn’t have possession and when he got the ball we couldn’t counter-attack. Unfortunately, we tried but lost again,” he continued.

Lionel Messi has been adamant with his decision to leave the international football team. Moreover, his tax fraud case worsened the situation.
