Novak Djokovic, 1R, 18 January 2016. –

Defending champion Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer made their Australian Open 2016 debuts on Monday with both tennis stars easing past their opening first-round matches. The sensational Serb beat the 51-ranked Hyeon Chung of Korea 6-3 6-2 6-4, while the Swiss maestro triumped over his first-round meeting with 117-ranked Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia, 6-2 6-1 6-1.

Djokovic is bidding back-to-back titles in Melbourne. A championship victory at the Australian Open 2016 for the Serb would be his sixth, his 11th grand slam title overall. He will play French wild card Quentin Halys in the second round.

Federer, who is a four-time champion in Melbourne, will meet unseeded Alexandr Dolgopolov in the second round. The 34-year-old is still looking to win an elusive grand slam title in almost four years. Federer last won a grand slam title at the 2012 Wimbledon championships.
