Fernando Torres could become the highest-paid footballer in the world

La Liga club Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has eight offers to choose from and one of them would make him the highest paid player in world football.

“He has an offer that would make him the best-paid in the world. There are nuances. It all depends upon the will of the club.” Jose Antonio Martin ‘Peton’, Torres’ agent said to The Sun.

Peton claims that the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker has offers from all around the world, including one from China.

“Fernando and [Diego] Simeone should sit down and talk about it.” Peton added.

Peton stated that the Spanish No. 9 is loved and wanted by Atletico Madrid fans and they want the striker to stay back in Madrid. However, the current situation will not be solved by Atletico chief-executive Gil Martin and technical director Andrea Berta. The problem needs to be solved and discussed between Torres and Simeone.

Peton feels that Torres needs assurance of game time from Simeone in order to stay back at the club.

Torres is currently on loan at Atletico from Serie A giants AC Milan. However, his 18-month deal is set to expire at the end of this season.

The Spanish striker has been termed as the worst January transfer in English Premier League (EPL) history. Torres infamously swapped Liverpool for Chelsea in a deal worth £50 million (US $71.17 million).

Torres netted 65 goals in 102 appearances for Liverpool. However, the Spaniard scored only 26 goals in 155 league games for Chelsea, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid combined.

The stats clearly show how Torres’ game has gone downhill after leaving Liverpool. Hence, the 31-year-old will look for one last pay off before hanging up his boots.

Torres has 2 goals and two assists in the La Liga this season. He has a shot accuracy of 47%, as noted by squawka.com.
